General Care
- Remove Dirt and Debris: Use a brush and/or sponge with cold water to gently remove any dirt or debris that accumulates on your waxed canvas gear. Do not use detergent or hot water, as this can strip the oil and wax crucial to the canvas's waterproofing qualities.
- Air-Dry Your Gear: After cleaning, hang your gear to dry outside or in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight to avoid fading. Ensure the gear is completely dry before using or storing it.
- Store Properly: Always store your gear in a dry, well-ventilated area. Avoid storing it in a cupboard or plastic bag for extended periods, as this can cause mould to develop.
Spot Cleaning
- Use a Damp Cloth: For small stains or spills, gently dab the affected area with a damp cloth or sponge.
- Pure Soap Solution: For tougher stains, mix warm water with a pure or organic soap. Dip a cloth or sponge into the solution and gently dab the stained area. Rinse the cloth with clean water and dab again to remove any soap residue.
Mould Removal
- Brush Off Mould: Use a brush to remove all mould from the canvas.
- Diluted Vinegar: Sponge the affected areas with diluted vinegar 30/70 mix with water.
- Air-Dry: Rinse off and hang the gear to dry outside, away from direct sunlight.
Avoid Machine Washing and Ironing
- Do not machine wash, dry clean, starch, or iron your waxed canvas gear, as these processes can damage the fabric and strip the wax coating.
