Wild Meets: On Getting Outside

Wild Meets: On Getting Outside

Getting outside has become a bit of a mission for me. Maybe even my dharma.

To get as many people as possible out there - connected to nature, to something real, to Mother Earth. It hasn’t always been like this.

I grew up in nature. Fresh air, open space, dirt under your feet. But it wasn’t until I started inviting mates that I realised not everyone feels at ease out there.

For me, nature is where everything settles. It’s the ultimate switch-off - better than any screen.

A few years ago, we launched Wild for Wilderness. It was magic. An idea that had been sitting in my head for years, finally brought to life.

And it really worked. But it also took everything out of me. Big events take a huge amount of energy and coordination - they have to live up to expectation.

And somewhere in that, I realised I didn’t want to wait twice a year to feel that sense of connection. Neither did anyone else.

What we were missing wasn’t more scale. It was something simpler.

So we've started Wild Meets.

Stripped back. No pressure. No sponsors. No big production. No endless emails or logistics just to get people in one place.

Just a destination - you show up, or you don't - that’s it. And honestly, it’s been just as good.

We might miss the beer on tap from Stone & Wood and the tunes in the background. But the core of it hasn’t changed. Good people. Open fire. Real conversations. That’s the whole point anyway.

This last meet shifted a little. Petrol prices had other ideas, so we kept it closer to home.

We headed to Lockleys Pylon in the Blue Mountains, and then settled into a Hipcamp stay in Megalong Valley. No big plan. Just a good walk, open space, and a place to land. Exactly how it should be.

KellThis first meet - it felt right. Self-service. Low expectation. High reward.

And if you didn’t make it this time? We’ll be out there again. Having a hell of a time.

We’ll share the next meet in a few weeks - keep your eyes and ears peeled. You don’t want to miss it.

As for Wild for Wilderness. We do want to bring it back - we just need to find a time when balance is restored in the world.

Maybe that’s the whole lesson in all of this. It was never meant to be complicated. Maybe we’ve just made it that way. Just get outside. Light a fire. Be with good people. Everything else is extra.

Till then, stay as wild as you can.
